Latinos Available for Comment on Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh
in Anticipation of September 4th Confirmation Hearings
Washington, D.C. — Last week, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) announced that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation hearings will begin the week of Tuesday, September 4, 2018. On this “Immigration week” for the campaign, it is urgent that we highlight the importance of the U.S. Supreme Court’s role in protecting immigrants’ constitutional rights and Brett Kavanaugh’s concerning record of declaring immigrant communities as constitution-free zones.
The next Supreme Court Justice will play a decisive role in shaping issues Latinos care deeply about, particularly in upcoming cases involving immigration enforcement and the future of DACA. Hispanics For a Judiciary — a network of Latino leaders committed to raising awareness around the impact federal courts and judges have on the Latino community — is carefully monitoring the nomination process.
The following HFJ experts will be available for media appearances in the days and weeks leading up to these hearings:
Jessica González-Rojas, Executive Director, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health — reproductive justice, women’s rights
Greisa Martinez, Deputy Executive Director, United We Dream — immigration, DACA (English & Spanish)Andrea Nill Sanchez, Director, Hispanics for a Fair Judiciary — federal courts, legal issues, Judge Kavanaugh record (English & Spanish)
Gustavo Rivera, New York State Senator, 33rd Senate District — legislative affairs, legal issues, political landscape
Please contact Jose Aristimuño at jaristimuno@now-strategies.com if you’re interested in speaking with any of our experts.
