LULAC, MALDEF, MANA-A National Latina Organization,
Mi Familia Vota, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, and Voto Latino Call on Judge Kavanaugh to Withdraw his Nomination
Latino leaders stand with survivors
In the wake of Dr. Blasey Ford’s and Deborah Ramirez’s credible allegations and Julie Swetnick’s latest allegations, Latinos for a Fair Judiciary partners, listed below, issued the following statement:
“The recent allegations of sexual assault brought forward by (at least) two credible and brave women have underscored what we already know: Brett Kavanaugh has no business being on the Supreme Court of the United States. We call on Judge Kavanaugh to do the right thing and withdraw his nomination immediately, and we share this call with the 73% of Latino voters that also believe he needs to withdraw (NALEO/Latino Decisions tracking poll). We demand a fair, nonpartisan FBI investigation that values and preserves the promise of justice for all survivors.”
“We have had serious concerns about Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination from the beginning. If confirmed to the Supreme Court, he will not protect immigrant rights, he will not preserve healthcare, and he will not protect access to reproductive care. Judge Kavanaugh’s views put the civil rights of Latinos and every American at stake, and the sexual misconduct allegations make it inconceivable that he serve on our nation’s highest court.”
“1 in 3 women are survivors of sexual assault or violence, and many of those women will not come forward for fear of shame, not being believed, or being revictimized. We stand in solidarity with Dr. Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick and commend them for bravely sharing their stories. Judge Kavanaugh must step down immediately.”
