Statement from Latinos for a Fair Judiciary on Confirmation of Bradley Garcia, first Latino named to D.C. Circuit Court

Washington, DC — Latinos for a Fair Judiciary (LFJ) congratulates Bradley Garcia—an experienced appellate lawyer and former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan—for his confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, making him the first Latino to sit on one of the nation’s most influential appellate courts.

In response to this week’s historic confirmation, Andrea Nill Sanchez, Executive Director of Latinos for a Fair Judiciary, provided the following statement:

“We commend the Senate on the confirmation of Bradley Garcia to the D.C. Circuit and the Biden administration for their commitment to diversifying the federal bench and ensuring that our courts reflect our nation’s demographic reality. Mr. Garcia brings an exceptional legal background of practical litigation experience, as well as a commitment to advancing social equity and upholding the rule of law around many of the current legal areas of concern for Latino communities, including: immigration, voting rights, gun violence, criminal justice reform, and abortion. With the confirmation of Mr. Garcia, Congress has taken a meaningful step in correcting the ongoing underrepresentation of Latinos in the U.S. judicial system.”
