Latino advocates remain undeterred, already mobilized for action after confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh
In the aftermath of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation the Supreme Court of the United States, Latinos for a Fair Judiciary issued the following statement:
“We are undeterred.
We stopped expecting this 2016-era Senate and this 2016-era White House to do the right thing for the Latino community a long time ago. We’re now near the end of 2018, and every attack and every heartbreak has only worked to strengthen and unify the Latino community like never before. From Chicano law students in Phoenix to Puerto Rican activists in Orlando, our network brought forth very real anger and commitment to action by Latinos ready for a new government.
Our commitment doesn’t end here. Our network is active in protecting Latinos and other communities of color who seek equal justice in our courts. As Justice Kavanaugh seeks to restrict the ability of immigrants to access health care and labor protections, or ignores the harm of discriminatory voter identification and potentially rolls back a woman’s domain over her own body, we will be there waiting for him.
Americans and American Latinos stand with survivors. We believe women even if 49 Senate Republicans and one Senate Democrat do not.
The beauty of our democracy is voters have the opportunity to change the government if it doesn’t represent them. Our partners have been actively ensuring that the Latino community does just that for the upcoming midterm elections and 2020 elections. Mi Famlia Vota’s USA Tu Poder campaign, Voto Latino’s Somos Mas initiative, and UnidosUS’ The Power of 18 effort are just three of the multi-state, high visibility, and grassroots mobilizations already in place to educate and mobilize almost 60 million American Latinos.
We remain undeterred. We’ll see you at the ballot box.”
